Fire Risk Assessment

Whether your premises is a small single tenancy, a multi occupancy building or a large multi storey or mixed use premises, Nicoll Shand are equipped for the task. We only use Consultants who have proven to have sufficient fire safety education, training and experience to be registered with the Institution of Fire Engineers Fire Risk Register.

Our Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) use a tried and trusted format based on PAS 79 and meet all necessary requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations (N.I.)

A fire risk assessment needs to be easy to read and understand and must identify all risks and hazards as well as provide suitable recommendations to allow the Responsible Person or Duty Holder to understand exactly what is required of them to ensure that their premises are safe from fire and the effects of fire.

Nicoll Shand Fire Risk Assessments provide an estimation of life risk using the BS 8800 risk methodology and provide an action plan for tracking progress and where appropriate provide a photographic index to clearly identify significant issues. We also individually rate each hazard identified in order that the user can see at a glance where their immediate priorities lie.

If you are a building owner or managing agent with multiple properties, Nicoll Shand can provide measurements across your portfolio and can provide a trend analysis so you can easily prioritise your resources according to risk.

Even before we appear on site we send you a pre assessment check list in order that you can have all necessary documentation available as soon as the assessment begins. This allows the visit to be carried out smoothly and with the minimum disruption to your busy schedule.

We can offer face to face brief-in of your reports so you will always understand what we have found and what you have to do to ensure compliance.

We offer;

  • Compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, England & Wales, The Fire (Scotland) Act, and Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations (Northern Ireland)

  • Use of a recognised national standard as our measure

  • Action Plans to help you prioritise your progress

  • Telephone/email response to any queries you may have

  • To act on your behalf should the enforcement authorities wish to discuss your Fire Risk Assessment

Fire Safety Management Systems Audits

Our consultants are leaders in this field. We developed one of the first Lead Fire Authority Partnership Schemes in the UK with a leading financial institution using the Health and Safety Guide, HS(G)65, as the main reference.

Our ability to measure the effectiveness of your existing fire safety management against a recognised management review system will help you identify strengths and weaknesses.

This review will take you beyond the basic compliance model and ensure that business critical areas are fully protected.

Fire Strategies

Many of our clients find that the original strategy for their premises acts as a straight jacket to their expansion or changing needs. We can revisit the original concepts and help you make better use of space without increasing the risks to your business or your staff.

The main areas where value can be added include;

  • Making more use of sterile areas in shopping centres

  • Ability to use redundant storage space

  • Better flexibility in retail space

  • Use of technological advancement to allow a more user friendly office environment

  • More realistic management of fire safety
